Class Info & Policies

A 15% discount will be given for all
supplies purchased for your class.

We hate to cancel a class, but reserve the right to do so, should the minimum enrollment not be met (usually 3 students). If this happens, a full refund will be given.

If you're not able to make a class that you've registered for, you must notify us one week prior to the class at which time a store credit will be issued. If we have less than 1 week notice, a credit will be given only if the slot can be filled from the waiting list.

Skill Levels:

Beginner – No quilting experience required. Suitable for the first time quilters or those who desire a review of basic quilting skills.

Advanced Beginner – Student has some experience with rotary cutting and general sewing skills. Pre-class work such as cutting may be required.

Intermediate – Student is comfortable with rotary cutting skills and achieving a ¼" seam allowance.

Advanced – Student has experience in rotary cutting, machine piecing, appliqué, machine quilting, and more difficult piecing techniques.
When you take a class at Sew Inspired, we'll give you the basic concepts and all the technique instructions for the project. In many cases, you will not be able to finish the entire project during the class time(s). You will however, have plenty of time to learn how to make the block, or use the techniques taught, to confidently finish your project at home.

Classes


Garment Making

This fall, we're offering a class, in collaboration with Marji's Yarncrafts in Granby, based on the new book, Uniform. This book contains a pattern for a very customizable go-to cardigan sweater in two weights, and a lovely also-customizable sewn tunic that you can make again and again. We are offering a 6-week class which will alternate between sewing and knitting, so that you can make your own "uniform!"

Learn to Quilt

Build on skills learned in the Beginning Quilting class! Although this class is designed to build on the techniques taught in the beginning class, it's suitable for anyone comfortable with a rotary cutter and a 1/4" seam. The techniques introduced in this class are designed to be more challenging.

Make your first quilt! You'll learn fabric selection, rotary cutting, piecing, machine quilting and binding. Eight sessions beginning May 10.

Machine Quilting

Domestic Quilting Templates allow you to free motion quilt on any domestic sewing machine! In this hands-on class, you will work on a whole cloth sampler using the Westalee six piece Sampler Template Set 1and the arc template included with your Westalee ruler foot.

With special guest, Long Arm Quilter Timna Tarr. Circles are among the most versatile templates in quilting designs. They are used to make feathers, geometric shapes, and help create dynamic borders. In this hands-on workshop we will go through several methods of using circles, of all sizes, in everyday quilting.

This class is for everyone - whether you've never quilted and want to learn, or if you already quilt. You will learn how to prepare the quilt top, resize and apply designs, select batting and backings, baste, and all about threads, needles and tension. Bring a finished top, if desired, to discuss ideas and approaches to finishing your quilt.

Does longarm quilting interest you, and you'd like to learn more about it? Or do you just want a review of longarm basics? This class removes the mystery of longarm quilting by explaining machine and frame elements and features, how to load a quilt, and vital facts about thread, needles and tension.

Bring your domestic sewing machine and create a simple stitch sampler while learning the basics of machine quilting. Our special guest machine quilting educator will walk step-by-step through the process from setting up a machine for best success, to stitching out designs. You'll learn how to use different threads and marking tools to achieve the look of beautiful quilting.

Do you quilt on a sewing machine, but long for more space? Are you unsure if you are "doing it right"? Come discover how the HQ Sweet Sixteen machine, plus tools and tips, can improve the quality of your work and the pleasure of your quilting experience. The machine's features make free-motion quilting a breeze, and additional creative feet and gadgets open a whole new world beyond meandering.

Quilt Projects

Make a fun little art quilt-to brighten your home, or someone else's! You will play with fabrics and fusibles to create your home. Jamie Fingal's "Heart of the Home" house quilts are 14″ square and are for women and children that are transitioning out of homelessness.

Use fabric to capture a special location. Maybe it's your favorite vacation spot, your neighborhood, or your hometown. Over the course of the workshop, participants learn both pattern-making and improvisational quilting techniques to create personal map quilts.

Special Event

From beginning quilters to precision piecers and award-winning art quilters, all kinds of students have taken and loved Melissas's classes. Her warm and relaxed teaching style quickly puts students at ease with something they have probably never done before. She breaks the faces down to simple shapes and proportions that anyone can learn. Melissa's approach will help you let go of perfection, get out of your comfort zone (painlessly!), learn something new and most importantly, have fun!

Stitching

For beginning embroiderers, experienced embroiderers and everyone who falls in between, Boho Collage Embroidery will visually inspire you to play with color, fabric and texture as you create a fabric collage in this workshop with Nichole Vogelsinger. From choosing fabrics to discovering how to turn them into elements that can be collaged to learning the embroidery stitches that will pull everything together into a cohesive work of art, this class will handle all of that and everything in between! Your imagination is the only limit to what you can create with a few key skills! Enjoy this fresh take on embroidery that will have you bending the rules so that you can create a work of art that is all your own!
